I’ve known many women and their families and friends whose lives have been upended by breast cancer. Inspired by several dear friends who have shared their stories with me, I am working on writing a fictional story about one woman’s journey from diagnosis, through treatment, struggles with identity, strained relationships, new and inspiriting relationships with fellow patients, loss and grief, therapy and healing, and ultimately finding her new ‘self’ as a survivor. 

The Arts play a critical role in building a foundation for a community that is healthy in mind, body and spirit.  Key to building this foundation and to achieving access to these benefits is to support career artists who, as members of the community, create a wealth of opportunities that help to ignite and engage citizen’s creative selves.
